Since Starbucks has broken the cherry of the 2010 holiday season I deemed it fitting that the DRW start giving a nod to this lovely time of year.

Thus, today’s recipe is The Apple Cider Martini – brought to you by a lovely sorority sister of mine.  On a side-note, my favorite memory of this person is an evening spent at The Texas Club.  This place has a “male review” one night a week and we went for someone’s birthday.  After a few cocktails and some needling a friend and I convinced her to tip the least scary-looking “dancer.”  As she reached up with her dollar bill, dude took his leg, wrapped it around her neck and started gyrating in a way I’d never seen before (nor seen since).  The look on her face was priceless.

So getting back to the drink, right??  You’ll need a chilled martini glass, vodka, apple cider, apple brandy, a slice of apple, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Take the chilled glass, pour in some apple brandy, swirl it around and then toss it out.  *(Editor’s note – feel free to drink the brandy rather than toss it out if you are averse to throwing out good liquor – happy now, Art?)*  Combine 2oz of vodka and 1 oz of apple cider in a shaker with ice – shake until well blended / chilled, then pour into the martini glass.  Garnish by putting a slice of apple on the rim then add a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.

If you’re looking to mix things up, I’m thinking you could garnish with a cinnamon stick or even rim the glass with a combo of cinnamon and sugar.  I’ve never tried this one before but may bring it along with me to the in-laws for Thanksgiving this year.
